Your Source for Dog Training - Mooresville and Lake Norman, NC
Highland Canine LLC,
provides customized obedience and behavior modification for our Mooresville
clients. Our pets are a part of our family. We know how important it is
that they behave appropriately and that they have manners. Our approach
is to teach you how to interact with your dog. We start at the basics teaching
you the body language to look for. We will show you just how the dog perceives
what you say and what you do. We take a unique approach in that we educate
you to understand your dog. This helps you tremendously because when a situation
arises, you will know how to handle it. You will learn to figure out why
your dog is showing specific behaviors. We also serve the entire Lake Norman
area including, Huntersville, Cornelius, Mooresville, Davidson, Denver and
Troutman.
Highland Canine Training is well known in the Southeast for our comprehensive
dog training programs. We have proven humane techniques that work. We are
proud of our results! Our trainers have extensive experience in working
with problems such as jumping, pulling, nuisance barking, shyness, housebreaking,
biting, anxiety, chewing, fear aggression, dominance, separation anxiety,
and many more problem behaviors. We work with all breeds, ages and sizes.
Our strong program and reputation has led us to great success in rehabilitating
hundreds of dogs.
At Highland Canine we want you to know that we don’t just work with
behavior modification, we also show you how to keep your dog stimulated
once he is trained. Many people have the perception dog training is a six
week commitment. What we try to explain is that it is a lifetime commitment
to our dog. The old saying practice makes perfect is true. So is the use
it or lose it saying. Your dog is the same. In order for our dog to be happy
and healthy we must maintain his obedience. This is why we also offer fun
classes for your dog. These are available in both group and private lessons.
If you have a group in your neighborhood, church or private club, we would
be more than happy to set up a private group class to fit your needs.
Dog Training Programs in Mooresville
We
at Highland Canine know how important it is to have a well-balanced, happy
pet. Schedules are all too often hard to juggle, and keeping our dog healthy
and satisfied sometimes doesn’t fall very high on our list of priorities
until there is an undesirable problem. We understand that having a well-trained
obedient dog is a very important part of the family. No one likes coming home
to find a dog that has chewed up the woodwork, eliminated all over the floor,
or worse yet eaten the couch! Serving Mooresville, Davidson, Huntersville,
Cornelius and the outlying Lake Norman area, we offer professional dog obedience
training and dog behavior modification to resolve even the most difficult
of problems.
We offer puppy training, behavior modification, basic on-leash training, advanced off-leash training, or fun things to teach you how to interact with your dog. Our goal is that your dog is reliably trained. This means his behavior is not affected by all the distractions of the real world. Our goal is that when you give your dog a command, he will be more than happy to respond in any given context. Our evaluation of your dog and your concerns will be done on an individualized basis. We will customize your training plan to address your expectations. We want to know your expectations of your dog and how they fit into your family’s lifestyle. This will help us determine which will be your best approach to a happy and healthy pet. You will learn about various types of reinforcement and proper methods of training. Also, we offer evaluations for the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluation. We offer these classes in both private and group situations.
Our programs are designed to teach your dog but also to teach you how to maintain and handle difficult situations as they arise. We will show you how to deal with your dog in various situations and locations. Confidence behind the leash is our goal. Our lessons are designed for the owner who wants to be an important factor in their dog's training. We will provide you guidance along the way in managing and rehabilitating behaviors.
Our group classes are a great place not only to train but to socialize your dog. Taking him out from the home is often a great way to burn excess energy. Dogs actually get more tired by being mentally stimulated than by physical exercise! Our group class meets weekly and supplies the dogs with new people, new dogs, and a new environment. We offer Basic Obedience, S.T.A.R. Puppy Class, Agility, K-9 Nosework, Tricks, and Advanced Obedience. Please check with us for local schedules.
Our basic on leash obedience class will teach sit, down, stay, heel, come, and place. This can be done on a one on one basis or in a group setting. Our in home training packages allow us the opportunity to work with you and your dog one on one. It gives us the opportunity to observe the dog in his natural environment. We like to have the entire family involved in this training. It is very important that consistency is key with everyone involved. This enables us to also deal with specific behavioral issues that cannot be addressed in a group situation. Dogs that specifically benefit from this are dogs that show stress around other dogs or humans and need that extra special treatment.
Our In-Home dog training
is available for those with a busy lifestyle. This training is available while
you are at work, school, or on vacation. We work one on one several times
a week with your dog. If you are not going to be able to devote practice time
during this training we recommend several lessons during the week. This will
make it easier for your pet to progress very quickly. We offer puppy training,
basic on-leash and advanced off-leash training in home. At the end of the
training we will make sure that you completely understand how to maintain
your dog's behaviors. You will learn how to reinforce all the commands they
have learned and how you can put them in your daily routine. This is recommended
for dogs of higher anxiety, as it is easier for them to learn in the comforts
of their own home.
We also offer Dog Training Just
for Fun!
Behavior modification is our specialty, but once we get the problem fixed now what? We want to have FUN with our dogs. After all, we have invested long hours and worked hard to make these changes and now it is time to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
Agility for Fun
We can teach you and your dog how to have fun with agility. From jumps to A-frames, the teeter totter, planks, tunnels and more. The dogs love this! Once they get it they don’t want to stop. This is a 6-week course for an hour a week that we offer in a group setting or as private lessons for one or more dogs.
K-9 Nosework
They must think! Did you know that a dog gets more tired if you stimulate his mind than if you were to run him a few miles? Dogs, especially certain breeds, NEED this mental stimulation. This will help them not want to destroy your house when they are bored. This course teaches the dog how to “find it” by the smell of an item. Think how impressed your friends will be when you show them how the dog found your keys! This course is also a 6 week one hour course that is offered in a group or private setting.
Tricks Class
Want to be in the movies or just have some fun showing off for family and friends? Then you will love the tricks class. You can earn a certification for your dog on four different levels; Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. Think of the pride when you tell your dog to go pick up his toys and put them in the toy box, and he does it!
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class
Basic obedience for your new puppy! We only hold this class in group sessions, as it is the utmost value for socialization of your new puppy. He will learn basic commands, but most importantly he will learn about some of those things he thinks are scary. This class is a 7 week course and lets both the owner and puppy earn the recognition this hard work takes. For years to come, this is a class you will be glad you took!
Basic Obedience
Have you rescued a dog
or purchased one just a little too old for the puppy class? Then, this is
the class for you. We will work on our basic obedience come, sit, stay, down,
heel and place. All of these basic commands are the key to prevention of future
behavior problems. This six week course will be the basis for everything you
will ever do with your dog.
